Running Physical Therapy

If you’re a runner, chances are you have experienced a running related injury. Often times, these injuries can be prevented with proper running form. Learn more about common running injuries and the benefits of a run analysis.

Common Running Injuries:

  • Shin Splints
  • Plantar Fasciitis
  • Achilles Tendonitis
  • IT Band Injury
  • Knee Pain

For runners looking to recover from their running injuries, you will undergo a run assessment and range and motion examination for us to gather your current state of injury. These will act as baselines of your recovery and by the end of your running physical therapy treatment, we will assess the improvement in these functional areas. You will be re-screened at the end of your physical therapy treatment to ensure you reach your running goals.

Run Analysis

Therapydia’s Run Analysis allows your physical therapist to take an in depth look at your running gait to determine areas of weakness, strengths and mechanical challenges.

The Run Analysis will begin with a video run analysis to give insight into your current running gait and posture. From the video analysis, we can see how you make your initial contact, how much shock absorption is placed on your knees as you bend them and how you toe-off.

With the findings from the running analysis, your physical therapist will create a custom assessment and exercise training plan.

Running Physical Therapy Benefits

Depending on the type of injury you have, physical therapy treatments for running injuries may differ.

Physical therapy is a great first step to take if you have experienced an injury that is preventing you from running. Often times, seeking physical therapy treatment when an injury is first sustained, can prevent it from progressing.

Physical therapy treatments may include stretching and strengthening exercises, use of stability balls for balance, resistance bands to build strength and manual therapy.

The goal of running physical therapy is to determine the cause of pain and develop a treatment program that will not only decrease pain but also give you the tools to prevent it in the future.

If you’re a runner who is experiencing a running-related injury or pain, we recommend scheduling a run analysis with one of our physical therapists. We can determine the cause of your pain and develop a treatment plan to help you reach your goals.
